I recently picked up a E-machine from a friend who no longer used it due to numerous virus infections etc. I cleaned up the machine and had it running very well. I stored it in the basement and when it came time to fire it up and use it again I get nothing from it. In other words, I power it up, and once that is done I plug in the monitor and the monitor does not power up. Nothing...likes its it sleep mode but nothing on the monitor. I switched monitors, same thing. Everything I plug the monitor into the machine (CPU) is shows nothing.

It does not sound like the machine is even booting, so I wanted to get into the bios to look at that but...nothing on the monitor. This was not the case before.

Its a fairly newer machine, XP Home edition T2482 AMD Athion XP 256 MB.

Those statements contradict each other. Does the machine POST or not? Why do you wait to plug in the monitor?
Have you put in a new CMOS battery?

Do you get a light on the front of the PC when you turn it on? Do you get a light on the front of the monitor when you turn it on? Most monitors (and LCD's) have an orange light when they are getting power but no video signal. This will turn green once a video signal is received by the monitor. Follow plodr's advice and try a new CMOS battery if the PC is at least powering on. If it isn't, it may be the power supply. Old Emachines are famous for using really bad, cheap power supplies. Yes, the PC is old. Only 256mb and an AthlonXP processor is old. Athlon XP's haven't been made since 2005 (maybe 2006?) and are considered more or less obsolete, but some have amazing overclocking capabilities. Yeah, I know, totally off topic

I too have a PC that is not sending a signal to the mointor. It is not reading the keyboard or lighting the Num Lock light either. When I power on the PC the three lights on the keyboard light for a second. Then nothing on it or the monitor. The red LED on the mouse flashes.

I checked both the monitor and keyboard on other computers and they work. I tried another monitor and it says no signal.

What could be the problem? I just moved the computer and it worked for a day. Turned it off and the next day, this condition.

This PC was purchased in 2005 and has on board video. Intel processor and Windows XP.

I had a problem like this when I moved a pc & plugged in a different monitor. In my case the cause was a differernt monitor refresh rate so the pc would not talk to it any more.
Don't remember the details but I'm sure the pc started but didn't pass POST 'coz as far as it was concerned there was no monitor.

I am using the same monitor from before the move.

goodtexan please start your own thread. It is not polite to post your problems in vanorseman's thread.

Sorry. i did not mean to hijack the thread. I thought the problems were very similar so I was unsure about starting a new thread.
