Monitor constantly turning on and off/refreshing

Hello all,

I recently build a new computer from the ground up, including case, motherboard, graphics card, etc. I basically started fresh from my older computer.

However, I did salvage the monitor from my old computer and have been using that for a while now, but problems have arisen.

Whenever I turn my computer off (or my monitor off for that matter) then back on again, the monitor turns on and off and the power button flashes everytime it does so. The strangest thing is that it takes longer every time for it to finally bring up my display.

In fact, this morning after I woke up and turned my monitor on (had left the comp on overnight), it sat there and didn't even try to turn on - no power button flashing or anything. Then, after about 3 minutes, it started flashing, then after about 6 more minutes, my display finally came up.

Here are my specs:

Windows Vista Home Basic
Intel Core 2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13 GHz
2048 MB of RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS
Monitor: Generic Non-PnP Monitor (it is approx. 7 years old)
ACPI x86-based PC

Is there any way to stop my monitor from doing this? Is it having a power fault? Also, will my monitor simply not turn on one of these days because it was "burned out"?
