    Hi,
I dropped my laptop and it's screen is cracked; the rest of the computer works just fine. Does anyone know how to replace it or where to take it to get it replaced? And, do I buy a new monitor at Amazon? (I have an HP pavillion dv9000)... Thanks so much!

Replacing the screen on a notebook PC requires moderate to advanced PC skills. If you have not taken apart and successfully repaired a notebook PC in the past, this is best left to a professional.

I would get estimates from a few local PC shops. My guess is you're looking at between $200 and $250 for parts and labor, depending on the screen size. Be sure the shop gives you at least a 30 day (preferably a 90 day) warranty on the new screen. Stay away from Best Buy, Office Depot and other large chain stores; their prices on repairs are much higher.

Again, unless you're an expert, I'd shy away from buying a replacement screen on Amazon or eBay. There are dozens of models in the DV9000 series; as such there may be several different monitors/part numbers based on the specific unit you have.

    Hope this helps. :)

Thank you for the information you provided for me about getting a monitor replaced. I'm wondering if anyone else has other opinions about it? Thanks... ;)
