I have seen threads similar but I have not seen an answer or what I am looking for.

The problem is I have two teenage sons in the house, each with their own computers (made the mistake of allowing them to buy their own and keep in in their room). I have tried Net Nanny and everything else to no avail as they know how to easily bypass those.

I am looking for a cheap or free program that will allow me to monitor their websites, not a bunch of jumbled codes.
    thanks

We have had many threads of this nature over the years, and they usually boil down to the same thing.

It's a little late in the day once they have already accessed a website which you have found evidence of. Then you have to approach them and confess your activities of sneaking about to find out which sites they visited, which really is no different than them sneaking about visiting sites you probably don't want them to. Adding monitoring software just increases the desire to break through it, ad let's face it, most teenagers seem to have an inbuilt radar on how to do this quite effortlessly.

Many here would recommend you chat with your teenagers about safe and ethical internet usage. Have open discussions about it. Move the computers into a more communal part of the house where you can be in closer supervision. If they object strongly, you probably can assume that you have very good reason to move them; if they don't it's no big deal anyway to move them.

It's a little late after the event to stop a kid doing what you didn;t want them to once you have found out. Education of safe internet usage is far better, and the explanation to your kids as to why you are doing this is far more palatable. Let them know you trust them, but that it is the occasional fruitcake you get on the net that you do not trust. Kids can be pretty flexible when they know you are being straight up with them. To monitor it just encourages them to be secretive in the future.

A site called <edited by Moderator> is decent sometimes when you are looking for something, but not sure what to get. They have rating, than they also have what people say. I always read the comments, incase it is really bad and not good to download. Maybe seach whatever term Net Nanny like programs are like.
The the site you can chose, free, free to try ect. I like clicking free;)

Home Networks are peer to peer and thus each computer goes on its own through the Router to the Internet.
As a result, you cannot control Internet traffic from another computer.

A real solution is costly, it involved using real server (like Win 2003) with special Firewall like ISA. Alternatively, to learn how to use Linux and do the same with open source Server and firewall.

Otherwise, the solutions involve installation of codes on the peer computers, which can always be defeated by knowledgeable people.
