monitor loses signal during windows xp installation

    Hi im having a problem whilst trying to install xp pro on a computer specs below

    while trying to install win xp pro about half way through installation the monitor loses signal and wont turn back on which leaves me pretty stuck . Ive tried all the obvious things i can think of different monitor , onboard and agp graphics port and installing win 2000 instead of xp but always the monitor behaves the same . Any help would be appreciated cheers Al

    How long does it stay blank for? The most likely thing is that it is installing the drivers for your GPU at the time when it cuts out.

    I had a notebook computer that I could not install 2K on because the monitor turned black. I looked, found an update for the BIOS, flashed the BIOS and the computer is running 2K.
    See if there is a BIOS update. Before you consider flashing the BIOS, unzip and go through the ReadMe. If it mentions about the screen blacking out, as mine did, then consider flashing the BIOS.

    Why on earth would you want to install 2K anyway?

    I would seriously steer clear of it! It uses about the same resources as XP, but XP is much more "patched up".

    There a reason why 2K was outdated within a year.

    Not all of us want XP with it's popups.
    2K is still being supported. I got my March updates the same as you.
