Alright, well I ahve a problem with my monitor/computer.

I have this yr 2000 GateWay that I was going to build a good computer with. It had everything and was working fine untill I went and got a new processor. I found out my new processor was the wrong fit(had a socket 7 needed a different one).

Anyway, when I put the old processor back into the motherboard, I turned on the computer and I couldn't see anything.

So here is the problem in a shorter version of my story:

I turn on computer, can't see anything on monitor

-Monitor works, tried it on 3 toehr computers
-No other video card. Using integrated video
-No prongs are bent on the cables or on video
-Yes, I had the monitor turned on
-Yes, the cable was in all the way
-Tested it with hard-drive plugged and
    unplugged

I had heard that the watch battery on the motherboard might have something to do with it

Yes, Unplug powersupply from rear of pc, pull sidecover off of the side of the case, on the motherboard you will see a battery, looks like a shiny quarter, remove the battery for 3 minutes, hold down on-off button for a few seconds, reinstall battery, see if it will run. Post back. ed

Well I guess the first thing is a question or two.

    Does your PSU power up?
Are you hearing any Beeps from your PC?
Is your HD powering up?(you said you pluged & unpluged it)
Did you ONLY take out the CPU?
Is your CPU fan turning (If equipped)?
Did you wear an anti-static strap when handling the CPU?
Did it slid in easily or was it forced?

We really need some more details DarkNetwork, with regards to tunered good advice on the CMOS/BIOS battery I would just add Reinstall a "NEW" battery if the unit is as old as you say. Batteries usually last about 3+ yrs

    (1) Uhm, I'm not good with abriviations, so I don't know what PSU is unless it's Power Supply Unit....

    (2) No beeps

    (3) I don't know.......but the LED light on it is on and you can feel it vibrating

    (4) I do remember taking the battery out of the Mother Board once.....

    (5) No, I didn't use an anti-static strap. Didn't have any at the time

    (6) The CPU had to be forced in

Uhm, yeah that didn't work. The computer runs, but still nothing comes up on he monitor.

    Note-

Just in-case you guys were thinking somethign else, when I turn on the computer NOTHING comes up. No BIOS screen, no Windows XP start up page or anything.

I would start over, pull cpu back out, check for bent pins, be sure to lift arm beside cpu socket to release cpu. Post back. ed

Well, remember how I said that I went and got a new processor and couldn't put it in? Well, when I was taking out the AMD-K6 to replace it with the PEntium 4 I got, almost every pin was bent because of teh way I took it out, but I found a CPU that was exactly the same and put it in.

    Would this be affecting anything?

If it was the same it should work, but at this time im guessing that it may not be any good, if you can straighten out the pins on the old one it may work. ed

Dude, I tried that after I bent them. I sat in a chair for an hour trying to rebend the pins back to the original position.......

    *so.........many..pins.........(cries)*

Hm.....guess what I just found lying around.

I found another AMD-K6 processor. So, just put the one I found in?

    Update:

Uhm...I just put the AMD-K6 CPU I found in the PC and still nothing appears on the screen. I did find something intresting though. Every time I go to take the CPU out, I find that a corner of the CPU socket starts to pull up with it. Is this something bad or is it normal?

That dont sound good, I would guess that you busted the motherboard on the first attempt. ed

Yeah, that's what the other guy told me. I guess I fried the motherboard.
