Hello, have had my pc for a few years now, maybe 4.

I had some network troubles the other day, and the guy from my router company at one point asked me to restart my pc. Well, it wouldn't gain a signal (has done this once or twice momentarily in the past then corrects itself). After about 5 minutes it regained a signal (after about 10 restarts).

Yesterday I woke up before work and tried to turn on my computer for a few hours straight and it wouldn't get a signal on the monitor. I eventually left for work, and when I came home at night, the signal was found and the monitor was displaying everything perfectly.

This morning same problem. It won't get a signal for anything.

    I've tried:

    -connecting to the onboard slot
-hooking my pc up to another monitor (which also displays 'no signal')
    -cleaning my pc of dust
-reconnecting my video card (Gforce 8500GT)

    Nothing has worked.

I'm starting to think it is either my video card of mother board...Is a motherboard difficult to replace? Could I keep my old cpu?

Any other suggestions or ideas of what could be the culprit of my problem?
    :confused

Do you have a friend who can host the video card for you? This will pin it down to either the card or the mobo. Since you're having issues with networking too, I'd lean more to the mobo having problems. Perhaps reinstall all the drivers first.

Hmm, replacing a mobo in a 4 year old machine is problematic in that it's tough to diagnose if really bad and that it's a 4 year old machine.

If your mobo really is bad, then yes you can reuse your CPU and RAM. However, you won't find one easily, maybe E-Bay.

None of my friends actually own their own computers (their parents). I may have to wait a while until I can see if the vid card works on another machine.

It also doesn't work when i plug it into the on-board vid card....does that mean anything?

Also*, the fan of my vid card (nvidia) wasnt working and when i tapped it, it started up. But then it was making a loud clicking noise and now it won't even start moving (the fan). Does this indicate the card is dead?
