Tried everything 2 different monitors, neither will work, 2 videos cards no change. monitor works fine when i hook it up to xbox.

The comp lights fans and cpu all turn on, there is no beep like usual though...

Everything was running fine yesterday then my girlfriend kept turning it off by holding the button since then monitor will not respond.

    Anything else i can try?

    Hi

Does the monitor show anything on the screen, can just be a connection message?

What you could try is to unplug the power cable to the PC and then hold the PCs main power button down for 10mins then with the power button still pressed plug back in the mains power cable and then let the power button go and then press to boot the PC, at times this can reset a connection (weird as hell but worked when a monitor resolution of mine was wrong and the monitor wouldnt show any signs of a Windows screen).

CD thing wont even open when the power is on, and i cant access shared media from the computerusing my xbox even if i let it sit on for a few mins so im guessing its not even loading windows?

I believe the CD tray should open even if bios is corrupt.

Try resetting the CMOS (unplug the PC take out the watch type coin-shaped battery for a minute or two and then put battery back in, plug back in and try to boot) See if any change.

If no change take out all the RAM modules and try to boot--do you get a long error beep?

    That is not good.

I'm not great at hardware past this point. I would say you have a motherboard issue since you are not getting an error on no RAM. (I'm not entirely sure if it is possible that some motherboards may not have the ability to produce an error beep because mine always have)

On the other hand it could be a power supply issue. Perhaps try to boot with just the RAM, keyboard and monitor attached. [Unplug the HD, CD and any other peripherals like printers or USB items] You are just looking for a BIOS or boot screen not trying to get to the operating system.

I hope someone else might be able to add something at this point.

I don't have any other ideas other than the possibility that clearing CMOS on that board may require a jumper move. I have a very old Compaq that doesn't like to start after several months of non-use and just removing the battery is not a complete CMOS reset but moving the jumper works to get it started. If you could tell the model of the MB it might help with a quick search to see if there is a jumper or CMOS reset button. You can also look near the battery for a set of about six pins with a jumper across two of them that will have "clear CMOS" diagram/markings, although it may be hard to interpret.

I'd say a MB or PSU issue but I don't know enough to troubleshoot any further. Edit: Take a look around the motherboard to make sure you haven't loosened any cables plugs while swapping video cards.

Try unplugging the PC. Leave the battery in. Move the jumper from 1-2 to 2-3 for a few seconds. Then put it back on 1-2, plug in and see if any change when you try to start.

I'm out of ideas. I don't think it will make any difference but one RAM module at a time. Try both slots with just one module. So four possibilities: Slot 1 with module 1 or 2 and Slot 2 empty. Then Slot 2 with module 1 or 2 and Slot 1 empty.

Anyone have any ideas what else TONX can check?

If the CD tray won't open when you press the button, there is a power supply problem - assuming the CD drive works. I would try another PSU. You have to make sure there's good gas in the tank.
