I have an ATI Radeon 9800 pro 128 running on a multisync lcd 21", yesterday i downloaded ATI's updated catalyst drivers and when i installed i still couldn't run the catalyst control panel. About an hour later my monitor flickered off then back on. Another hour later the monitor shut completely off and then i heard the sound for an error prompt. I turned the computer off and then on and the monitor still wasn't going on and i couldn't even see the CMOS or BIOS settings screen or anything. I checked the wires and everything looked fine. Is the problem my monitor is burnt, or could it be the drivers? Someone please help because i'd rather not have to buy a new monitor. Thanks in advance

First thing to try is boot up into safe mode. That bypasses all the drivers and just loads standard VGA. If that works then you may be able to uninstall the new drivers. You should also check that they were the correct drivers for your OS.

The problem with that is that I don't even get a chance to see the boot up cause the monitor isn't working for anything...also drivers were correct

ati just sucks with drivers if that's even the problem, i'm pretty convinced my monitor is just screwed...sucks

Are you sure that is a feasible solution, Yargwel?

Myself, I would be checking the monitor connection to the video card, and the power cable. Is it plugged into the monitor correctly, and if so, do other devices work on the outlet?
Make sure there's no on/off switch on the monitor that got shut off accidentally.
If the monitor has a voltage selection switch, make sure it is set to the proper setting for your country.
If the monitor has an accessible fuse, check it.
If the monitor has any funny smells (like something burning) turn it off and take it to a professional.
Make sure that the brightness and contrast settings aren't messed. I've had customers drag me on a 40 min drive to adjust their contrast. Not fun.
Try a different monitor if you can. This would isolate the problem to the monitor.
Reseat the video card. Try a different slot if you can. Clean the card's edge connectors using a contact cleaner or a white eraser. Be certain to prevent crumbs from the eraser falling into the slot. BE SURE YOU GROUND YOURSELF PROPERLY WHEN WORKING WITH THE CARD!! Don't wanna zap the thing!
Remove the card and make sure each socketed chip is seated securely. Use a screwdriver and press down on all four corners of all socketed chips on the card.
Since this is a new card, we might suspect a resource conflict. If the card is PCI, try it in a different PCI slot. Disconnect the card. if the problem goes away, go into BIOS and reserve the IRQ that the video card's slot is using for PCI only.
If the system board has another video slot, disable the unused slots in CMOS

Ugh, there's more steps you could take, but I'm too lazy to write them all. If this doesn't help, post back and I can keep going.

If you cant see the boot screen is not a driver problem sounds like your monitor is diying :(.....Just turn on the monitor and tell me what you hear...one click or two..if two does the secound one sound like the first backwords...What im trying to say is that monitors have relays to turn them on and off and thare normaly the first thing to go bad.....from what iv seen when thay go bad thay click on ( turning the monitor on ) and then click right back off .....the sound will be a very "on/off" sound if you understand...if it is a relay thay can be replaced at a electronics repair shop for cheap.....

Id keep an eye on it.... thats the way relays go in monitors... when thare about dead thay some times work.....try turning it off for a while and turn it back on the relays will tend to work better whan thare warmed up.....thare is no way that i know of that drives can make a monitor not work at the boot screen....
