Hello, I was wondering if anyone could help out.

Recently, my monitor has been shutting off even though my PC is still on. It goes black and it wont come back on when I wiggle the mouse of press any keys. I press the power button on the monitor and then so again to see if that fixes it, yet each time it always says no signal.

I have tried the power saving trick. Updated my drivers, lowered my monitors brightness setting, even made sure all the cables were connected securely.

At first it worked, and now I can safely submit this without fear of it shutting down again. But now when I try to play videos or play games, it shuts down on me.

Could it be a video card error? I am not sure what I should be doing.

Attached are my computer specs. In addition I've included the details of an error message that pops up every time I am logged back on.

    Thank you for you assistance.

    Hi and welcome to MajorGeeks!

How do you normally get the monitor working again?

According to your logs you have two graphics cards installed - is this correct?

I have to resort to unplugging the monitor from the outlet and turning off the computer. Sometimes it seemed bad enough to where I disconnected all the cables from the monitor to the computer and the cables to the outlets.

And yes, I do. Would you suggest disabling one?

Do you also have more than two screens? I notice that your report states you have 2 screens, but they are of the same type so I was just wondering if they were a double entry of the same thing.

My suggestion would be, if you only have two screens, to remove the lower-powered card as you don't appear to be using it for anything (unless you have more screens) as your report states than SLI is disabled. This second card might be causing problems and our first step should be to remove it if it is not in use.

I do not know why there are double entries. I only have one monitor. Even though it can switch displays between HDMI, VGA and DVI (The only one that seems to have a signal to display anything is the HDMI setting)

OK, in that case do you feel comfortable attempting to remove the second graphics card?

Not quite sure how to do that actually. Can I just disable it in my device manager? Or does it physically have to be removed?

In this case, so there is no guessing, which would be my main graphics card? The GT430 or the GTX 460?

Disabling it in device manager should be enough for now, but if you feel comfortable, uninstalling it in Device Manager and physically removing it from the case would be better. It's nothing more daunting than a couple of screws, a catch and maybe a cable. If you want I can link you to a guide to help.

If you do choose to remove a card, then remove the 430 as it is not as powerful as the 460.

If you decide to disable, then your primary card is whichever one the monitor is plugged into. To check this, right-click on the desktop and select "screen resolution". Then make sure monitor 1 is selected. It might list the card here (Like "Default monitor on xxxxxx") but if not click on "advanced settings" which should bring up the device manager properties window for the card that the monitor is hooked up to. Just read off the name and there you have it!

Thank you. I will see if this works. Interesting. The secondary video card (GT430) was the one connected to the HDMI setting. Which was the only active one. Once I disabled it, my primary took over and it now displays on the DVI setting.

I would try a second monitor and see if it does the same thing.
