    Hey

I turned on my computer and my screen was all big. So i tried to change the resolution back. Well now i dont have the 1680x1050 resolution. I only have 1600x1200 which looks weird on my 22" widescreen monitor. I have installed new drivers and went back to a later restore date and still nothing.

IS there a way to either fix this or add 1680x1050 to a resolution list like a file?

My graphics card is a XFX 8600 GT and my monitor is a Megavision MV220.

    Thanks.

If I understand correctly, you had 1680x1050 and then one day, you powered up, and that choice had disappeared? Without you making any changes whatsoever? Strange. I do have some links you may find helpful, and if you haven't heard of OmegaDrivers, that may be what you need. OmegaDrivers is a user based community that works with ATI and NVidia and offers an alternative set of drivers. Now, these are 'unofficial' drivers and are not supported by either manufacturer, but they are about as close to official as an unofficial driver can possibly be. Angel, the dude in charge over at OmagaDrivers, builds custom drivers based on a previous release. For example, the current driver for ATI cards at OD is based on the 7.12 Catalyst, while the newest one at ATI is 8.3. This is because OD takes apart the driver, gets in there and adds juicy goodness (like extra resolution choices) for all of us that like a little bit of extra juicy goodness with our drivers. Check it out. I've provided links to their 'about' page, to the 'FAQs' page, and to the driver. I would recommend (and appreciate it) if you read the 'about' and the 'FAQs' before downloading and installing the driver, just so you're familiar with what's going on over there at OD.... I've also included some other links you may find informative.

OmegaDrivers ATI driver http://www.omegadrivers.net/ati_winxp.php (For Windows XP- there's a different one for Vista)
You should probably uninstall your current ATI drivers before using the OD driver as to avoid a message like "the driver you're trying to install is older than the current driver" because it IS based on an older Catalyst release.

BTW- all you NVidia folks who are reading this.... yes OD has NVidia driver to. Jazzed up and tweaked out.... here's the OmegaDrivers home page:

    Thanks dlb for your help.

I looked around on the settings in the Nividia control panel and and found out that it wasnt picking up my monitor was saying analog display. So i totally removed the VGA cable and plugged it back in and now it is showing up. Thanks for telling me about the omega drivers i forgot about that.

    I can finally get 1680x1050 again :D

:cool Sweet! Upon re-reading your post, I now see that you have an NVidia card. The other day when I typed the above post, I misread your original post and thought you said the video card was an X800GTO which would make it an ATI card. My bad. The links I provided are for OmegaDrivers ATI stuff, but you can get to the NVidia stuff just the same... oooops.....
