recently, my comp has started to have error notices that say that windows explorer was shut down as a preventative measure, that and a whole slew of popup ads are causing me a great deal of trouble.

i have ran ewido, spybot, adaware, all with current updates and yet they still dont get rid of the bulk of the problems, ie the shutdown of windows explorer.

if anyone can take a look at my hijack this logfile and offer some advice, id be greatly appreciative.

    thanks in advance.

also, in my futile/misinformed attempts to correct things, i deleted a file in the windows folder in my c drive, now my add/remove programs wont work.

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

    Please answer the below questions:
    • Is Spy Sweeper the free trial version or a paid version?
    • Is Ewido the free trial version or a paid version?
    • Do you have your Windows XP SP2 boot CD?
    • What is the name of the file that you deleted and exactly where did you delete it from? Is it still in your Recycle Bin? You may be able to restore it from Recycle. To restore, just double click on the Recycle Bin icon to open it.Then locate the file, right click on it and select Restore.
Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, renaming, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.

If you currently cannot run Add/Remove Programs, you will have to skip the first part of Step 0 in the below READ ME that asks you to uninstall various malware. But you must do the rest of the rest of the procedure.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!
