As with my previous thread, I have more strangeness w/ IE8 in WinXP Pro SP3. The previous thread has been solved, I performed a "re-install" of IE8 but now I have these problems.... look at the screen shots below.... the first is the "General" tab, the 2nd is the "Advanced" tab.... obviously there are some options missing, and since a reload of IE8 didn't do the trick, how can bring things back to normal?

    THANKS?

(the problems in the 1st shot should be obvious, the problems in the 2nd shot show a lack of the "Reset Internet Explorer Settings" and the "Reset" button and a bunch of text)

The title of the box says Internet Properties whereas my IE 8 in XP SP3 says Internet Options.

    Warning: this is real old

but let's see what version of Inetcpl.cpl is on the computer.

I went searching and I have 52 instances! (Some are for IE 7) Let me see if I can find the latest one.

    version 7.0.6000.17095

    I also have a Inetcpl.cpl.mui version 7.00.5730.13

I have no idea if that helps.

There is probably something in that you show properties rather than options but I haven't figured out how to change properties to options so you get the other choices that appear to be missing.
Okay, I managed to get properties to come up by typing inetcpl.cpl in the run box.
Before I was firing up IE and clicking Internet Options under the Tools menu.

Thanks for the replies plodr.... I'll take a look at the links you provided. I've looked at 2 or 3 other XP SP3 systems running IE8 and they all say "Internet Properties" even though the Control Panel button is called "Internet Options".... odd.

Thanks again, hopefully I'll find a fix (I just completed a full repair install of Windows, and it's still messed up!!!), I uninstalled IE8 via Add/Remove Programs 'cuz I read online someone had the same problem, and uninstalling IE8 and reinstalling worked for them, doesn't work for me tho'.
