More Windows 10 Crap

this guide is for advanced users with free time only. this is not a simple manual. anyone who damages their own machine, cannot hold me liable for bricking, however i have done all of these steps my self, and i do not recommend it to the layman. i am not legally liable for what you do with the words written below.

If you have recently chosen to, or unwillingly been “upgraded” into a shorter computer hardware lifetime and many critical errors, capable of totally destroying the linux/unix department of home development and custom imaging, with UEFI instead of bios, known as windows 10, then I recommend many things to help provide a more enjoyable, faster, safer, more secure, inter-depth experience inside this crumbling operating system with decisively deceptive corporate attack.



First thing is first. I am not liable for any damages a user commits to their own hardware by following or misunderstanding these instructions. Some of them may be complicated, but if you are an english major or a mathmetician, a logical thinker, or with help from a friend, you should end up with a mainly stable framework of an operating system, user-friendly programs, security and privacy of your system.



This also contains another important ingredient. FREEDOM.

Anyway, we are here to talk about windows 10.

The first step is to download and install Ccleaner by piriform. This is one of the most important tools in the arsenal against the advertisements.

Once you have ccleaner, run a full clean, then run the registry tool. When both of those scans and deletions are complete, we can begin phase three

The third thing to do is to begin the process of entirely gutting the system with a razors edge. We use Ccleaner for this process because it bypasses the windows settings that prevent uninstalling of corporate spy-ware and adverts.

A few other reasons we use Ccleaner is because when you use a windows control panel, or “godmode” (see below) uninstaller, there are registry files and settings files left over on the computer, usually in documents, or a hidden file in /:c. either way, Ccleaners tools are designed to clean up after you uninstall a program, deleting useless registry keys, bad file paths, pesky advert reinstallers, survery question, trial remembrance cache’s/cookies, and spyware that piggy backs information from your ISP to the company that runs your systems.

After you have uninstalled that list, run both of the registry, and the file cleaning programs from Ccleaner again to ensure the disappearance of any droppings from the cutting process during fat reduction on your clock-speed. This saves your processor and your ram a lot of breathing room on startup.

Then after the batch file has finished its work, run Ccleaner again. Registry and file cleaners.

Now comes the fun part. Shopping for useful programs to use. I say shopping because I believe in supporting local artists. Programming is poetry, much harder to write than read.


Lets start at the sensible beginning. Now that you have firefox for casual use, I recommend tor browser system for professional use. Tor browser-system can protect you in many ways from prying eyes, this is also complimented by the fact that it is based on mozilla base framework. Oh and take a look at their newest product, Tribler free to use.


So to begin, one of the main programs we deleted here was Get Office. Pay money for a basic human need. Dispicable.

Anyway there are alternatives that are very user friendly, free, and donatable. Support local art.

One of the best is Libre Office. It comes with the full office capabilities, linux friendlyness, mac compatiblity, and of course, a windows installer available in 86x and 64x, however windows ten is most likely found on a 64x, so make sure to check your “This PC” properties in the right click, drop down menu and find out what is right for you.


Now we look for safety and security on our system, because windows firewall and windows defender are a joke.

First recommendation I would tackle is spybot1.6.2 from majorgeeks. This program will entirely protect your computer in realtime, with daily updates, and it even comes with a file shredder program, which is extremely useful in virus removal. It detects spyware, malware, pup-c, and much more. Oh and its free.

If spybot is not your bag, and you are looking for something easier to use but as effective, I would recommend shelling out the 40-60$ for malware bytes. But make sure to get their other removal tools too if you plan on cleaning external systems, or doing heavy cleaning that might require more than a basic protection system.

Next step is for anti virus, now that our spyware needs are met. I recommend bitdefender. The free works very well, but it is also worth paying for. However if you plan on spending money I recommend nod64 or kapersky total package. Yet again, the bitdefender works well for everyday home use, but larger jobs need more sophisticated tools and sometimes you have to pay for those.

If bitdefender does not work out and you are looking for a heavier, but still free, possibility, then AVG free edition will work, it will be harder on your ram and processor, so be prepared, and if you wanna pay money get kapersky.

One last thing to get is winrar and 7zip. These are very useful tools regardless of what your job with your computer is.


Ok so now we have the main basics covered in the necessary parts of a home computer or student laptop to be secure, useful, and accessible while preserving low hardware specifications. Lets move on to the entertaining side.

VLC player. Its free, its functional, and it has a bajillion codec packs and firefox addons that are way safer and easier to use than many other media providers. Watch all your movies, edit them if you want, listen to music on playlists, convert music files, edit songs, and use to record.

Audacity is for more indepth audio editing and manipulation.

Fbreader is great for comics, books, and other epubs from a kindle or nook, and firefox reads pdf’s.

Steam. Get the steam launcher. After it is Installed and an account has been created, go to task manager, by right clicking on the tool bar at the bottom of the screen, go to startup, and disable steam. This will make your computer boot faster, more safely, and keep a longer general health of the machine. It also will let you know that steam is not running when you do not want it to.

Nexon launcher has a few pretty cool games also, this is strong on my recommends list.

Runscape Classic.

Any number of private world of warcraft servers, from just about any previous expansion.

Remember that it is illegal to emulate a video game unless the copy-write is over, or you, (the user and reader of this manual) owns the game in question.

Free to play, good cash store, but not necessary at all, kind community(hard to find these days)

league of legends. Bad community, fun to kick ass at. Not worth getting mad over. Mostly free, cash store not needed.

Ok, so now we have games. Lets look into ways to keep them running smoothly.

Go back to piriform and get the defraggler. Install it but do not run it.

Now that all of your installations, removals, fixes, modifications, and tweaks are complete. Reboot your machine via shutdown. If it is a laptop, take the time to go to every power setting and change them to do nothing, never sleep, never hibernate. It is time consuming, but windows ten has critical errors with sleep and hibernate.

When your computer boots up again, wait for all the programs to configure, load, update and enter a calm state.

Begin by running ccleaner. Both tools. Registry and file cleaner.

After Ccleaner is done running, close it and open defraggler.

Run defraggler. This will take time.

Reboot your machine. Upon boot, run each program individually and check for updates. After that, do a basic spybot scan, dont worry bitdefender is running in the background on its own. Make sure to immunize with spybot, also make sure to go to advanced user mode to make use of many more advanced tools.

Once this is done, we can build a toolbox.

Download installlers for these programs, to have a basic repair harddrive, and bootable secondary thumbdrive to use the tools with.

Begin with Unetbootin. Use it to create a bootable disk drive from a 8-32gb thumbdrive. With it you can automatically download install and extract an iso from one of many different distributions of linux. I recommend, Xubuntu, because it is lightweight, easy to work with, compatible with ALOT of hardware, and can be used to run Wine, to fix windows computers.

You never know how infected it is until you can see it from the inside.

Light weight and free. Xubuntu.

After you create your bootable xubuntu thumbdrive, boot it up from your bios, check for consistency, then shutdown without install and remove the drive.

Now we need to get the programs for our external usb harddrive, I recommend atleast 250gb.

and an iso of another operating system, in-case you need to re-image on the spot.


Get the packages in tar and gz for unetbootin and wine, also for virtualbox. Get a package for the avg linux free. It does exist and it scans linux and windows files.

Nice to meet another Linux user here on the forums! I like and use Slackware and OpenBSD, but, I would not recommend them for new Linux users. Other good Linux distros are OpenSUSE and Mint. Have fun!

 

If you're planning on dual booting Windows 10 with Linux please be aware that if you upgrade to the anniversary build of Windows 10 it *will* create another partition on your hard drive and potentially screw-up your dual boot set-up.

 

I have Windows 10 and Linux Mint dual booting on a desktop with the very latest 1607 Win 10 build and nothing has changed. They both boot seamlessly.

 

I'm guessing that Mint is more forgiving when partitions are added. Nice.
