Hmm, I signed up at Exo so I'll see, but my use will be skewed as I use lots of memory for folding and VM to start with, normally 2.6GB out of 4GB. I also grabbed OpenOffice just to see if I can get my use up to the %80 mark that they quote. I haven't yet seen this behaviour from W7.

Never seen that on multiple Win7 or Vista PCs at all, did on XP. But then "new metrics" can skew any result, depends on your method of test, and to say metrics dont lie is wrong, we can all look at a different set of criteria to adjust the final data.

All I can comment on as not going to run their app as I will go off real world usage is that I have no issues running Win7 on a 1GB Compaq Laptop, 2GB Acer Laptop, 2GB Samsung Netbook and a 6GB Custom build Desktop and a 2GB Custom Build Desktop, plus setup and troubleshooting another 30 or so for friends and collegues, no-ones yet complained of slowness in Win7, so doesnt equate to "most" if % comes into play with just the PCs in my house, would have thought at least one would bog down with lack of ram.

Well that company now do have some good free press for their site and apps, which will get alot of internet play over the coming weeks

Ya, and now I'm a part of it too!:-D I agree Halo, my power using friends also say pshaww to those findings. Like I said, I'll load this sucker up until it groans, if I can. Perhaps a bit of a disclaimer here?

That's out of the box,I've not even started disabling windows services yet

My XP system is using 0.7 gigs ATM.

    Not :-D

Anyway its about time something used this damn memory we keep being told we need...

    Hi Augie

    Yes agreed on disclaimer

could mean that and a off the top of my head on that the folk running this monitoring app all use Firefox! and its the cause.... unless you can pinpoint a true cause then your results are not worth squat, need to be able to backup claims with at least some evidence.

Its all for free press just like Previx did with saying a Microsoft update gave users BlackSOD, when later they retracted it saying it was likely malware, me and cynical head on again, things as Previx call virtually most .exe or .dlls malware, suspicious or not known at this time, they flagged a good file in their app as malware.... just my guess, born out of they flag MGTools.exe as malware!!!! and as they dont add a disclaimer saying its not associated with majorgeeks file, then they in their list of every app/dll (just search for an app and you hit their page 9/10 times in a search, so done for hits over accuracy, so similar to above its a bold statement aimed at getting press.

Yup Rikky, with just the regular stuff running, I'm also at 1.4GB. However, I use a good part of my memory now with W7.

Guys in Win7 whats the % of ram used for you, found in Task Manager at bottom, can be with multiple apps open or say from boot? only curious, dont want 100s of replies just a few to guage usage.

    Win 7 Ultimate
    6GB
    65 Processes
    8 apps running
    30-34% Ram usage*

*did look twice when it say 46% but noticed I was running XP in a VPC, and just a rough-timate as not scientific.

    Tweaked W7 RC,

    AMD 64 2.2Ghz, 1.5Gb RAM, uptime 10:21:20:55,
    35 processes (25 on boot), <14900 Handles, 448 Threads,
Total Physical Memory 1534, Cached 613, Available 861, Free 261.

    40 - 44% RAM usage.

Their Win 7 compatibility checker says I don't have enough RAM or a CPU capable of running 7 ...

Has anyone suggested to them that they Google "Mark Russinovich" yet?

25 processes on boot,35 running damn! Its still windows 7 right or you using a command interface:-D

I've not bothered shutting any processes down yet apart from the bloatware that came with my laptop, looking forward to experimenting but I want to try out the full functionality on win7 first.

Wouldnt say you have any memory hogs at all, ok maybe "Firefox" :-D but Minefield is much better on ram and while an Alpha still is robust enough I feel for those technically minded to use, wont run amny of the naff add-ons.... but they are surplus.

Release Candidate is not really a good test as it has data collection apps embedded to troubleshoot the betas, need release candidate really. BUT still its not using "all" your ram to bog your PC down, so article is

Loose - 4 Win - 0 for now, takes me back to % of PC as I mentioned earler, this is a good sign that the research is flawed badly, need more to be honest about mem usage like those that have posted already to make a more scientific-ish statement like the originators of the article.

Not to the originaters of the article but have suggested to all on this forum and others that moan at memory usage to read Marks posts on Technet and Springboard.
