ok i recently got a p4p800-se motherboard, and a 2.4ghz p4 chip. I hooked everything up and plugged in everything, and powered on. All of the fans spinned, and the motherboard light lit up, but nothing came to the screen. Also, i can't turn it off. I can turn it on, but to turn it off or reset it, i have to flip the switch at the back. I know that everytrhing is plugged in the right place too, which leads me to believe that this is a motherboard problem. Does anybody know what is wrong??? Thanks a lot.

So the fans spins and everything is on but nothing comes on the screen?

check that everything is connected properly, including the heatsink/fan is correctly positioned. is might be a PSU molex connector isn't in the hd properly, so check that everything is plugged in securely, also, make sure your video card is fitted properly.

    yeah

and everything is connected properly. ive put it together a few times now too, because i changed the case so i know that its not a connection problem. also, the power supply works, i tested it on my friends machine.

does the hard drive boot on your friends machine?
how old is the monitor you are using? that could have died on you which is why nothing shows up.

    Hi,

You are along way from knowing if its a bad mobo, Do you know that the video card is good?

Please list your full specs like mine and we can go from there

yes i know that the video card is good. i've disconnected everything except for the ram, cpu, psu, and motherboard, just trying to get it to post and it still wont post. so it cant be a problem with anything else. and ive tried the psu in another computer that takes more than mine, and it worked. if the ram didnt work it would still give a post beep. so its got to be either motherboard or cpu. ive done some reading and this seems to be a common problem, but ive never found an answer to it. maybe ill just have to RMA it? ahh i really dont want to do that.

and yes the processor fan is spinning.

When you did the minimal components test did you do it out of the case to eliminate the possibility of a case short?

I'm having the same problem, but I'm also not getting power to my keyboard. I'm getting fans, drives, and light, and I'm sure the video card works. Different motherboard though.

I would lay the mobo on a piece of cardboard, install only hsf, ram, cpu, psu and video card(out of case with minimal components test) and see if it will post.

If not then power down and take out the ram and power on, it should give 1 long intermitent beep.

Then power down replace mem and remove video card and power up, should give 1 long and 2 shourt beeps.

No beeps= pad mobo or cpu, hard to tell witch with out swaping parts.

If you are getting beeps then mobo and cpu should be ok and passing this test.

You should also reset the Mobo/Cmos before the above.
Reset in most cases will reset mobo/bios to default settings.
In bios are setting for graphics for AGP and or PCI & onboard if you have.
Memory failure or incorrect settings (timings) will cause no video but should get a beep code, usually would require reset of cmos to post again then go directly to bios (before trying to boot) correct any bios settings/mem timings.
On your mobo may be some jumpers or switches, if so are they set correctly?
Last comment if your using HDD from another system with windows already loaded, you'll most likely need to reload windows if you get past posting.

It passed the beep test, but I can't figure out how to reset the Bios. There's no jumper for it, and the manual is no help. If it helps any, it's a Gigabyte GA7VTXE. Any ideas? Or just pull and replace the battery?

OK you are wanting to reset the CMOS not the BIOS. Yes just pull the motherboard battery, wait a minute or two & replace it.

make sure the monitor is plugged into the video card and not into the onboard video port.
lame i know, but ive done it before.

Don't have an onboard one, but thanks for the advice.

Still nothing, the Keyboard still isn't getting power, the Hard drive isn't doing anything, and nothing shows on the monitor. I've tried two different video cards as well. One AGP, one PCI, but still nothing.

I am running out of ideas here.

Do you have the 12v atx connecter from the psu to the mobo pluged in?

You should try testing the ram in another computer but if the ram was bad and causing the computer not to post the board would beep just as when the ram is removed.

I think with the results of the tests that the cpu is good and the mobo is bad.

    Anyone else with any thoughts?

Have you tried a different keyboard?

I'll try a different keyboard, but that the mobo is bad worries me. Thanks for the help. *sigh...*
