No need to apologise I was a little sharp;) Give man fish he'll eat for a day, show a man how to fish 'on passmark' and he'll eat for a lifetime was my point.

Anyway Sach loves looking this stuff up:-D

I just looked up that Sony's motherboard and it is apparently LGA 775 not 478 as I had wrongly assumed. So you could just upgrade the CPU to the 2 core quad and get quite a performance boost.

The motherboard has a max FSB of 800mhz though and anything above a single core p4 Extreme edition cpu has a 1066 fsb.

Without a cpu support list we'll never know for sure me thinks.

I know some 1066 cpu's will work in 800mhz boards but they have to run under clocked so a 3.2GHz cpu will run at 2.4GHz or the motherboard if available can be overclocked to 1066 so the cpu runs at full speed, I'm almost positive this board will have no over clocking features.

But that wasn't the main problem it was the chipset, core 2 duo's are only supported from what I could gather from the Intel 945 chipset's and up, Toki's is 915 so there's a canyon between the two that no bios update can bridge:-D

well I went the core 2 quad. It runs much fasterthan my previous computer. My only problem at the moment is thegraphics card. It seems to be conflicting with windows 7. I sort of weary of rolling back the driver because I would like for it to be as up to date as possible. The only problem Im having with it is when trying to index in windows 7. Everything else seems to be up to par from what I can see right now. Everything is reading fine, the card looks to be cool enough, running at 53 degrees. The card is nvidia geforce 6200 on a asus P5Q-E motherboard. it doesnt looked to be overclocked either. So Im unsure of how this card could be conflicting with the OS. Ive looked over the net for an answer, bu I really dont like the windows forums with their usual suggstions all that much.
