motherboard detecting the wrong processor

I just recently upgraded my computer. I had an Athlon 1700, and I went out and bought a new motherboard, athlon 3000, and a new case. after installing everything I booted up the computer and the bios detected that I had an athlon 1700 instead of a 3000. I tried see if there was a way I could manually adjust this in the bios, but the only cpu option I have in the bios is for overclocking. I have no idea why its detecting my old processor if I just replaced the motherboard. I am going crazy here.

 

I'm going to try to update the bios, even though I've never done something like that before. Then I'll see where that takes me

 

It's detecting that it's a 1700 because the 1700 uses the same multiplier as the 3000 but the 3000 uses a 333 fsb not a 266 fsb like the 1700. Go into bios and make sure that the FSB is either 166 or 333.

 

Make sure you are carful when updating your bios. If you mess up flashing your bios your motherboard will be ruined and you cant take it back for an exchange. But are you sure that you put in the 3000 and not the 1700. if you bought the motherboard and the 3000 as a combo they may have packaged the wrong cpu with your motherboard.

 

Yea I remember seeing the front side bus option, but I wasn't too sure what it was about so I just decided not to fool with it. I think 166 was an option. I'll have to try that. thanks.

 

Haha That turned out to be the problem. I'll be sure to read the manual before I go asking a question like that again. 1 little jumper cable in the wrong position can do something like that.
