    Hi

My external hard drive media player has stopped working - first with TV and now with computer connection. I took it in to local internet cafe who say it needs a new motherboard. I am completely confused about what specs of motherboard I need to replace it with. Could someone help? I am in the UK.

    many thanks

    Matthew

A 160GB PATA drive unit is likely several years old. My guess is your only hope of finding a used board for the identical model unit will be on eBay.

Personally, I'd purchase a replacement unit and ask a tech savvy friend if he/she can hook up the old bare drive to a working PC and transfer your old files to the new media player.

    Hope this helps. :)

    Hi

That's really helpful. Obviously my major concern is that I have important data on the external hard drive that I need to access. I checked on ebay but nothing came up. But what you are saying is that should possible to transfer the data from that drive even if the motherboard is not working onto another PC and then onto a new hard drive?

    Many thanks again

    Matthew
