Had a system crash and now get 4 fast beeps that supposedly means the real time clock isn't functioning.
MB is a ASRock Z68 Extreme7 Gen3. It has diagnostic alpha numeric LEDS that show 55.
Which according to the manual memory isn't installed.

But if the clock is down would it even see the memory.

But my real question is, is the RTC part of the CPU or is it a component of the MB?

I don't have spare parts to swap out so I'll have to purchase the one most likely to be bad.

Really can't afford a full system at this time.

    TIA

The RTC is on the motherboard. If you have multiple RAM sticks installed, did you try each stick out?

You may need to search through the faq's at the site, as it does not show/name problems- all download as pdf's.

I tried opening the first couple, but unrelated to your fault, so you may need to open maany to get a clue- I will ahve another look later,if I get time. Good luck

Thanks for the replies and the work you put into them.
I did replace the battery. Didn't try pulling ram sticks. I would have to pull two at a time.
Found a replacement board on eBay and ordered it. Be a couple days before I can swap it out.

When your new motherboard comes- try with less ram, first, just to check it is seen in the bios, then add more, and check again.

Swapped MB's. Same problem. Swapped CPU. Same problem. Swapped memory. Same problem. Tried it with 2 ram sticks. Same problem. Swapped PSU. Same problem. Swapped Vid cards. Same problem.

The only thing I haven't done is swap the case.

I have had a good look around, and some of these gaming boards seem to have dicky motherboards-Returning them does not always get satisfaction, and often the manufacturers will say an RMA was damaged, and walk away.
I just looked through a long pst on a Gigbyte- similar led posts to yours-they checked psu, cpu, ram, screen, and still no luck.
I am afraid I cannot offer any other help, as this is one I think would make me chuck it it the bin, if it was mine - and I do have a lot of patience, but I think you could well be on loser, with this board, and the replacment you got- I would like someone else to give you an opinion, though- don't just take my word or it.
Have you tried e-mailing Asus ?

I called ASRock and talked to service guy to see if they had any refurbished boards. He said they haven't for years and no longer service them, again for years.
This was the best and most dependable MB I ever had and I've been building my own computers since Win95 came out.
It lasted me at least 6 years. And still ran everything I play in the 100+ fps range.
To upgrade I'll have to buy a new MB, a CPU because nothing current still uses a 1155 socket, and I'm sure my ddr3 memory will also have to be replaced.
That's a hard hit cash wise for me these days.

Pretty sure now it's a bent pin on the CPU socket.

EDIT: I hate the 1155 layout. It's way to fragile.

Good luck- hope you can do something with it.
