mountain dew in their latest promotion is giving away an arcade machine chock full of old games (you can enter in codes from mountain dew / amps to enter). the reason i'm posting is this; is it possible to build a unit like this? the arcade machine they're giving away has to run on a regular computer; the one they're giving away has games from like four different developers, so it has to run on an emulator. how much would it cost to make one of your own? how powerful would the computer have to be? the emulator? what would it be like building the arcade box?

anyone know anything about this sort of project, or those arcade machines? ever own one? entered the contest?

Looks like a nice machine, I'd love to win one!!
I'll be drinking lots of dew this summer.

Looking at the list of games that comes with, those are all Windows XP game packs that various companies like Atari and Activision released so I doubt it's using a emulator. They would just bundle the Windows XP game pack with the system. You wouldn't need to have a emulator since all those games have their own menu in the original application.

Most of the Windows XP classic game programs used standard keyboard keys to play the games which is how they are able to map the joysticks and buttons with those games.

The PC wouldn't need to be a powerhouse since the minimum spec on most of those older games is pretty low.

I'm getting thirsty for some DEW thinking about it :drool

do you have any information about those windows XP game packs? that's pretty interesting. i've heard of there being guides out there for creating those arcade machines - has anyone seen any of those? i've been jonesing for one of the old-style arcade machines for a few years now - x-men, simpsons, etc.. but this would be pretty cool as well.

regardless, the promotion's website says the value of the machine is about three grand, so i imagine it has to be a pretty solid unit as a whole. i haven't played some of the games listed in years.
