I'll be using my computer fine for about 20 minutes then all of a sudden my usb mouse will go then my ps/2 keyboard. I tried using a usb to ps/2 adapter and the mouse still goes out...tried reinstalling drivers for the usb but still no luck. just wondering if anyone knows where the problem may be....thanks a lot

If you can try your mouse, and, keyboard on another computer, it will eliminate faulty parts.

There are several things that can cause this sort of thing.
    How old is the computer.
Did you install anything just before this started.
Have you all the operating system updates.
Have you updated motherboard drivers , lately.

I have seen this behaviour with old laptops when the power batteries are failing and with desktops connected indirectly to the USB via hubs , boxes and other connectors. A more detailed description of your system would help diagnosis.

Very many usb problems can be traced to the limited power available from the usb, particularly on long term basis which is why I asked the questions.
If you are sure your system is supplying enough power, either from a powered hub or directly and you have not recently added to the usb load, try this
Windows has a power management facility for usb

Hold the windows key down and press pause break
    Goto device manager
Expand the USB entry by clicking on the plus in the box
Right click on each usb hub in turn
    Select the power management tab
Untick 'allow windows to turn off this device to save power'
    Click ok
    Reboot.

ps I still don't know if you have a laptop or desktop and if the key board and mouse are directly connected!

sorry about the lack of details...desktop with usb mouse and ps/2 keyboard...ps/2 port stops responding as well not just usb

If you have tried Studiots power saving, Did it help?
If not I suggest you try a substitute Power supply unit, in case it is failing.

another possibility is an interrupt (IRQ) conflict.
In Device Manager can you tell if all the devices are working properly or do any have warning triangles?
