Mouse getting on my last nerve! Please help!

Ok, I will start by explaining whats going on. I have a Dell Inspiron 660, 64 Bit Running Windows 8.1.
Now, for about the last 3 weeks I have been having problems trying to click on things. For instance, if I click on the white part of a page, it highlights when I don't want it to. Try to click on a button or a box on a page, I have to click repeatedly, until it works. If I right click on a link,it opens on my current page and 2 more tabs of that link. If I open my calculator it opens two of them. Lets see, oh, when I turn it on after a shutdown, it automatically opens google chrome, not my set pages either, just google search page. Last but not least, it took me over an hour to get signed in to this site again this morning due to the clicking I assume.Went to an old laptop that I have and signed in just fine,so I changed the password with the laptop. Was able to sign in after that. Oh and yes, I signed in on the laptop using the same password I was trying to sign in with on the aggravating desktop. Forgive me for rambling,just so frustrated by all of this now.

I ran all the scans in the Run & Read Me.Was told that my system is clean and to post this in hardware or software forums. We are thinking it might be the mouse or keyboard. When I check them in properties they both say they are working correctly. The mouse and keyboard are Dell. They came with the computer. I bought this computer in Februaury 2012. I am going to buy a new mouse Thusday 9/25 to see if that works. In the mean time, has anyone got any ideas of what the problem could be?

 

The new mouse is a good start. Several times I've had to open a mouse to clean the wheels and crude from around the button switches inside. A switch's spring could be broken or jammed. If a good mouse does not work either then you might need to dig a little deeper.
