Mouse losing connection

My mouse has started coming in and out of operation while playing Guild Wars. It runs perfectly fine when I'm doing anything else. The mouse will stop moving and you can here the little sound when you unhook/hook a USB device. It's getting pretty annoying. The mouse is fairly old (original MS IntelliMouse optical)...

 

Have tried the MS optical Intellimouse, I prefer the old fashioned balled mouse. At least you can spin the ball, in place, and cut down on the amount of hand movement you need to do for the equivalent mouse movement. I've consigned my Intellimouse to the bits and pieces box and bought a new ball mouse. Sure, you've gotta keep the ball clean but that is no big deal. Bazza
