Mouse not working

I been having problems with my mouse I was online and suddenly my mouse stopped working and I resetted the comp.

During the boot process ESCD said updated and since then no joy getting mouse to work.

I have dual bot of XP and Me the problem occured in XP but the problem is also present in Me. I have entered bios to reset escd but to no avail, it works sometimes in acronis boot menu but not in OSes.

I have tried using Device manager to uninstall and reinstall on reboot but no success.

Apprecieate any feedback

 

The mouse is MS intelliMouse 1.2a ps/2, no drivers came with it, just using MS generic driver.
