This just started happening today so the only troubleshooting I've done was to update FF from 20.0 to 20.0.1 which didn't help.

I pulled the mouse and am using the notebook's mouse pad which seems to have 'fixed' the problem.

The mouse was plugged into a usb hub.

Can a mouse crash FF like that? When is crashes it just blinks off in an instant poof! gone. When I restart it it loads the pages it was showing several sessions back and doesn't seem to be able to recall any newer ones.

It did the same thing with Pale Moon too.

I've not heard of anything like this before.

All I can suggest is checking to make sure that a key assignment hasn't been made to link a mouse movement to ALT & F4 which closes windows.

Which direction does the mouse have to move in to achieve this effect? if any, do you mouse over anything or go into a corner?

It seemed to happen when I moved the mouse from right to left. It would zap FF so abruptly it's kind of a visual shock when it happens.

I use a gesture program named 'Just Gestures' (pretty good free program, best I've found) but it hasn't been running while the problem happens. There was a pre-programmed gesture to 'close window' (now disabled) but the gesture is an "L"...and has never caused a problem.

I'll try another mouse and report back. Using a mouse pad to browse is a pain. I'll try another port too. The mouse pad doesn't trigger the crash, even when I try to make it crash.

The mouse is a cheap Kensington Mouse in a Box, but it's never had any problem in the past year or two.

Might I also suggest uninstalling the gesture program as another test? Just to make sure.

I plugged the 'bad' mouse into it's own usb port instead of the hub it was in when the problem happened. It's only been a few minutes but so far so good. I can't make the problem happen now.

I think either the hub was loose at the port, or the mouse was loose in the hub, or maybe the port in the hub is bad, or the hub itself is bad. No biggie.

Sadly, it not being a problem is the highlight of my day.

    So....never mind. I hope.

    DOH !!!

    Thanks

I'm glad you appear to have solved it. And I hope your day improves.
