Mouse with a lower thumb button?

I've been using the same Logitech Optical Dual Mouseman for (quite literally) years, to the point that the sliders on its underside have long since fallen off. It's been an awesome workhouse, but I've finally decided that it's time to pick up a new mouse (better accuracy for precision graphics work and gaming) and've run into a small ergonomics hiccup...

The Dual Optical's thumb button is located towards the bottom of the mouse, whereas it seems like new mice all have the thumb button more towards the upper surface of the mouse. Since I'm used to gripping the mouse lower to get that thumb button (it feels more secure that way), it's very uncomfortable and unnatural to have to consciously lift my thumb higher.

Does anyone happen to know of a mouse where the thumb button in particular is lower down on the body, like the old Dual Optical?

Not a mouse but the Logitech Trackman Marble trackball has it's buttons on the sides. Newegg.com carries them. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...9&cm_re=Tracman_Marble-_-26-104-249-_-Product

Eh... Not much of a trackball fan. I could never see myself gaming with one, let alone using it normally.

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but did you ever find a comparable mouse?

I have the same problem and all these new mice with the higher thumb buttons just don't do it for me.

Unfortunately, no. I tried at least a half-dozen mice and none had what I felt was a "proper" button placement on the side. Still using the old Logitech for now; I just slapped some new pads underneath it so at least it'll glide better.

Not sure if this will meet your needs. There are two buttons on the side, one above the other, one being lower on the side.

May I suggest this, it's a mouse and keyboard combo. Works with Win7. Better with WinXP.

Nope, same problems as all the others: the thumb buttons are up at the top, not the bottom. If you're used to the much-lower thumb button, it's quite a difference.
