Move Working Ssd From One Computer To Another

I had a system crash last summer and was forced to borrow a new computer. I've been using it since July.

I finally got my own and would like to take the SSD drive from the borrowed one and put it in mine. I have another new copy of win10pro that I can put on the borrowed one so I can return it with a system on it. I also purchased an SSD drive the same size. so I can return the borrowed one with a clean drive and new OS. I'll just keep the licensing from the borrowed one.

Will moving it from one computer (HP Z440) to my newly acquired computer (HP Z420) create issues?

perhaps there is a better way?

the reason I want to do this - is because my software (and some irreplaceable freeware) is on the one I've been using. along with files etc.

I found out the hard way when my previous system died after a power surge that overpowered my surge protector. The hard drive seemed OK, but I lost software when trying to reinstall along with 3 copies of Adobe illustrator that I tried to reinstall (had the originals, the box, the key etc) but because it was older (CS2 and CS3) they wouldn't allow me to re-register since it was no longer supported. I haven't tried installing my original AI V10. very frustrating. threw out over $400 worth of software.

I just prefer to do this (take the drive out of the borrowed one and move it) if it's possible. If not - can I clone the borrowed one - minus the windows OS and put that in the new one?
