I have 3 copies of a movie DVD, "Running with scissors" (made in 2006). One copy was heavily scratched so understandable if it could not play. But the other two were pristine - no scratches or smudges. Unfortunately they do not work. The contents of the movie DVD could not be accessed from the DVD player software. (Note that other movie DVDs work fine so my DVD player is not the problem.) When I placed the DVD in the player, Windows 10 popped up a note asking what I want to do with the DVD and this note had the correct name of the movie. I tried running the DVD with VLC Media Player & with sMedio True DVD for HP. Neither player could run the DVD. The DVD player sounded like it was constantly searching the DVD. Nothing appeared on the screen with either player software. Note that the DVD case indicates that the DVDs are for region 1.

Any thoughts about what is wrong & how I could get these to play?

Have you tried a lens cleaner in the drive? The drive is replaceable if the lens cleaner did not work.

I have successfully watched dozens of movie DVDs without problems. These 2 DVDs are the only DVDs that will not start. SO why would a lens cleaner help?

My apologies, you did not state these were the only 2 DVDs that would not play.

Actually, I did not do a job enough job describing the problem. So I owe you an apology.

Good grief, I can't even type correctly. I mean to say " Actually, I did not do a good enough job describing the problem. So I owe you an apology."

That's OK, I understood you anyway. Were these DVDs store bought/rented movies or copies from someone or self-made?

If I understand all three are copies and not originals.
Try the 2 copies that refuse to run in a different computer. If they fail there, then we have to assume that they are not good copies/burns. It happens.

If after trying as plodr suggested in another computer, they still don't work, then---
If the ones that are region 1, -What region are the ones that do work?- be careful if changing regions as, I believe you can only do this about 4 times, before your dvd player goes to crap
