moving programs from one drive to another

I have a special accounting program that I do not have the install cds
How do I move the program so that it works from one drive to another
what files or registry files need to move so that it works like it does on the other hard drive. My boot corrupted but i can see all the files using a usb hard drive connector.

I think, you need some special software. Like Partition Magic or Norton Ghost or something. Only programs like that tends to malfunction.

Copying an installed program from one drive to another, in theory, is possible, but in all practicality, it's basically impossible. In order to successfully copy the program, you have to run something like FileMon and RegMon (these programs monitor in real-time which registry keys and which system files are accessed and modified) during the install of the program. You'd then have to make a list and record only the entries related to the program you were installing. Then you'd have to use the installed program for some time (again running FileMon and RegMon in the background) and again make a list of all files and reg keys accessed and modified during the running of the program. Then you'd have to compile your lists and move everything related to the program from one registry/drive to another registry/drive. Then you'd have to move the program files also. Since programs create many files all over the hard drive during installation and while running, and many reg keys are accessed, created, and modified while the program is installed and running, this chore is more-or-less impossible. As stated, the only way to do this without losing your mind and possibly destroying your registry is to copy the entire drive using a partition cloning utility.
