had a Mozilla browser, loved it, but got rid of it after reading a thread here about a new Mozilla, so I guess I missunderstood, cuz I can't get this firebird to install worth a beans.

What do you mean can't install? Firebird comes as a binary... (Or am I really that old :))

Yeah, when you download the latest FireBird and unzip there should be an exe, all you have to do is double click it... That should work, does it?

Ummm, when you "install" Mozilla Firebird, it comes as a .zip file. You just unzip it to the folder you want Mozilla Firebird to be *a child of*. So, since I want Firebird directly under C:, and not in Program Files anywhere, I unzip the file to C:. That creates the program in C:\Mozilla Firebird.

Then I set up the shortcut and run the executable.

Then I set up a new shortcut with MozillaFirebird.exe -p as the command target line, and that opens the Profile Manager and lets me set up my profile.

    Firebird 0.6.1 for Windows is
    HERE as a .zip file.

What problems are you having, exactly? If what I've said above doesn't help, I'd be happy to try again, cuz this is a browser worth having and worth getting RIGHT.

Oops! I forgot: You have to wipe out the old MOzilla folder completely (You said you had one), and get rid of the old Profile that you'll find in your Username folder under Profile. That should do it. Then run the executable.

I'm trying again as you stated, I haven't be able to get it to work, and turn on the browser, you know there is no icon to click to open it, like I had with my last incarnation of mozilla

Use the MOzillaFirebird executable to make a shortcut: right click and choose Create Shortcut. You're there.

Ok, Dino. No problem. If you can't make the Firebird sing for you -- icon and all -- let's take you back to Mozilla -- the latest version of it (and probably the final one) ...

CLICK HERE to download the INSTALLER for Mozilla for Windows. Pay attention to where you're putting the file, so you can find it later.

(Might be a good idea to copy, paste, and print these instructions so you can follow them exactly without having a browser running.)

Now, when you have downloaded that and BEFORE you double click on the filename to INSTALL it --icon and all--

open My Computer to the drive that has the Mozilla Firebird folder on it, find that folder, MAKE SURE YOUR BROWSER IS CLOSED, and

    delete the Mozilla Firebird folder.

Now go to Documents and Settings on that same drive, open it to see your <username> folder, open that to find your Application Data folder, open that and delete any folders named Phoenix or Mozilla (yes, the whole folder UNDER the name Phoenix or Mozilla).

Now open your Control Panel and go to Add-Remove Programs, and make sure there are no Mozilla or Firebird entries in the list of things you can uninstall. If there are any, UNINSTALL them.

Now go back to the Mozilla installation file you downloaded a while ago, and double-click it, and it will do a clean install of Mozilla for you -- complete with the icon.

You should be up and running in under five minutes from the time you first downloaded the file to install Mozilla.

Let us know how it goes, will you?
