mozilla firefox 2.0 keeps crashing

for some reason my firefox keeps crashing.i scanned my computer for viruses,adware,spyware and everything and it stills keep doing the same thing.my internet explorer works fine though.i dont understand whats going on.my firefox will also freeze up my computer when it locks up and crash.i dont know whats wrong cuz my internet explorer works.can somebody please help me

i did everything it said and none of those worked.my firefox stills keeps freezing and lockin up and i have no idea what the problem is.alos,everytime im browsing a pop up window keeps popping up and it seems like its nothing i can do to stop it.can someone please help me

 

Did you completely uninstall? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_Firefox

Basically use Add/Remove programs in Control Panel to uninstall
Delete the Mozilla Firefox folder in Program Files, if still exists.
Start>Run> then type in %appdata% then OK button, in folder that opens delete Mozilla folder.

Then try new install. You will have to get your extensions and new bookmarks from scratch.

**If you want to save bookmarks before complete uninstall go through folders %appdata%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\####.default then copy bookmarks.html file to your desktop***
***You could also just rename rather than delete the %appdata%\Mozilla folder to MozillaOld before the fresh install. That way if the new install is still crashing you could get your profile/extension info back.***

 

Locking up and freezing is not the same as crashing, crashing is when the program spontaneously shuts down. The correct article that covers your problem is here:http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_hangs

I should have read your original post more carefully, I missed the references to freezing up and locking up. That's not a crash when that happens, there is a different set of issues that need to be explored.

 

thanks but im also having another problem.everytime i go to a site a pop up window will pop up.a different ad pops up everytime.i have a program blocker installed and it still keeps popping up.i dont understand why.it also does that on my internet explorer but it wont hang though.it makes my firefox hang.also i noticed on the status bar on my firefox when i go to a site,sometimes it will take me to a totally different site.for example i was on yahoo for like 5 seconds,next thing you know the page was still loading and it took me to some totally different site and the pop up window popped up again.i dont understand whats goin on,i scanned my computer for spyware and adware and it got rid of all of it.can u please helped me

 

You may have removed some spyware, but you clearly didn't get all of it. Follow the instructions in MG's Malware Removal Guide: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407
