Mozilla Firefox dumped all passwords and bookmarks

I used it this morning, went to bed got up tonight for work and it has dumped all preferences. It goes back to the google start page, no bookmarks (and I had quite a few) and no saved passwords. Why would this happen and is there anyway to recover my bookmarks?

 

Try this.
Open my-computer.
Go to, tools>folder options>view tab
check the circle that says, "show hidden files and folders"

open your c:drive>documents and settings>(your user profile name)>application data>mozilla>firefox>profiles>(folder with some jibberish that ends with ".default")>then look for bookmarks.html and bookmarks.bak
save those 2 files if they're there. (to your desktop or somewhere other than that folder)

 

I found the HTML file that had all my bookmarks and wasn't able to copy over but I just had to open each one and re-add them. Is there a way to recover save usernames and passwords or is that gone forever?

 

It might be that Firefox has got confused and simply created a new profile for you.

Try the following:

Close all instances of Firefox, make sure it's not running using Task Manager and go:

Start>Run>Type: 'firefox.exe -p' (minus the quotes)

This should launch the Firefox Profile Manager. See if you can revert back to the correct Profile that way.

plexshaw was right. I kept picking the default user instead of just default. As soon as I pointed it to the right direction everything worked.
