    I am running:
    Microsoft Windows XP
    Home Edition
    Version 2002
    Service Pack 2
    Dell Dimension 3000
    Pentium 4
    2.79 GHZ
    256 MB Ram

After having various problems with Mozilla Firefox and have went back to Internet Explorer. How do I get Explorer to work properly again. When I try to add a short cut to my desk top it comes out with the firefox logo still and the message: This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the folder options control.

Also at the top of every page I load I still have the Mozilla Firefox listed as my browser. How do I eliminate this? I have deleted both Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla Thunderbird from the add remove programs and also did a search and deleted everything that had anything to do with either program.

Can someone get me up and running properly again. Thanks a lot!

    See how this goes>

    Open windows explorer/Tools/Folder Options/File Types.

Find "Internet Shortcut". Highlight it then click 'Advanced'. Delete Mozilla if it is there.

You could also try running IE Fix

there is no folder options under tools; only internet options and it doesn't give me a file type choice

When i click on "IE fix" a blank download screen appears momentarily but does not download anything.

I guess I must really have problems.

Windows Explorer not Internet Explorer. Gets confusing sometines. :)

As for the download did you try a diffenent link?
Maybe right click/save as might do it.

    Something else to try>

Open Internet Explorer/Tools/Internet Options/Programs. Tick "check to see if IE is default" down the bottom.

Hello Hipster Doofus and thank you. Your last suggestion worked and most of the things seem to be working again. Any ideas on how I can remove the firefox logo from the top of all my pages? Thanks again

Down load High Jack This (HJT) from MG http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=3155 run program and you will see FF there delete it........ problem solved, or you could try CCleaner, but if I remember it misses some of FF, but is great for getting rid of any other left overs.
