Mozilla Firefox log in problems, help.

Hi, every time I try to log into Mozilla Firefox I get the obligatory 'donk' noise and a window which reads:-

Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item

(error code, C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\lib\deploy\jqs\ff\..\..\..\..\bin\jqsnotify.exe)

I ran the Combofix program and rebooted same problem, uninstalled and redownloaded/installed Firefox rebooted again same problem. Currently using internet explorer (8 I think) but this is as slow as a slug with a brick on its back and is rather unfamiliar and 'fiddly'

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

Have you tried updating your java program? And if that doesnt work try uninstalling java and reinstalling. Also there could be a firefox addon that is causing the problem. Go to start - all programs - Mozilla firefox - and choose firefox safe mode. If it loads in safe mode its likely an addon is causing the problem. From firefox safe mode try disabling some addons until you find the culprit.

 

Looks like FX is trying to load the Java Quick Starter (jqsnotify.exe). I'd disable it to test if it's the cause of the crash.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode > Tools > Add-ons > Disable Java Quick Start. Exit Firefox then start Firefox normally.

You may also be able to disable JQS (globally or just for IE, I'm not sure) by using the Java Control Panel (in Control Panel) > Advanced > Miscellaneous > uncheck JQS.

 

Yeah that worked guys, basically went into safe mode and got rid of it all (ticked all boxes) and reverted to default so just updating the necessaries and avoiding the rest. Thanks for your help.
