Sandisk Sansa 250 doesn't last nowhere near as long as the manual says using a "AAA" size Alkaline battery. Any suggestions on a longer lasting battery?

Energizer E2 - best battery i've found for electronic doo-dads. Also, some electronics, especially smaller ticket items (I personally have a sansa FUZE), are notorious for "overestimating" specifics like this to sell more units. Similar to how a car you buy will never get the MPG advertised on the window sticker .

OK, thanks. Will give that a try, assuming I can find who sells 'em. I'm currently using Powertron rechargeable NI-MH "AAA" batteries I bought at a Harbor Freight store south of Pittsburgh when visiting family couple weeks ago. They work a little bit better than the alkaline batteries to.

Energizer E2 are available (at least here in Houston) pretty much anywhere common batteries are sold . They are indeed more expensive, but they do, in fact, last longer . The packaging indicates they are made specifically for the demands of consumer electronics . The E2 Lithiums will work, although not alkaline batteries, and yet because they arent alkaline they last far longer .

Adding to what's already been said, when electronic devices spec out "battery life" they get their number by switching the thing on and then leaving it idle when the battery drains. Just like laptops, where the maximum battery life advertised is achieved by not making it do anything at all, and turning off the screen while it does. ;)

try removing the battery when not in use, i've left my sansa on accidentally alot, and it would have a dead battery. i take it out now, and it lasts a real long time.

I left mine in the default auto off setting. It turns itself off after 1 minute from playing the last song. And I also set the backlighting to stay on no longer than 15 seconds.

I recently bought a sound feeder (FM Transmitter) for it so I can listen to the music non-stop in my truck or car. I got an iRiver brand with auto on/off and it is powered off the vehicle power port. It has a three channel non-volatile memory (whatever that means). It's a nice gadget too, but have the keep the sound up or the sound feeder (FM transmitter) turns itself off.

Yes, I drifted off topic a bit :-D

I got the Lithium batteries. They do last a whole lot longer. But one tiny minute problem - when the battery does eventually drain, it goes out quick.

Yeah, they dont fade out slowly, they go out fast . But they DO last longer .
