I'm trying to watch MPEG-4 files with Quicktime and while I get Audio & Video, the video just skips and it will not play smoothly for more than a few seconds...

I don't have any other programs installed on my comp to test out....

I'm assuming the issue lies with Quicktime....

    Windows XP Home
    512 DDR RAM
    1.6 GHZ processor

These are NOT large files, they are about 160 MB and 20 minutes long... I've tried multiple different files and this happens on all of them...

    Any advice is appreciated... Thanks!

While not a "fix", have you tried using a different media player? this could tell you if the problem lies with Quicktime, the source files (not likely), or with the hardware, or if it's a low-lying Windows issue. I'd recommend either VLC Media Player or GOMplayer. Both are excellent free media players that generally do not require 'outside' codecs to playback most video files. If the files have the same problems when played in a different player, then it at least narrows the cause down a little bit....
    :-D
