    Hi,

I've been looking for a freeware version of an mpg to avi converter. I found SC Free Video Converter 6.0.0.0 at this site:

    http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Utilities/Text_Editors_A-G/SC_Free_Video_Converter.html

I downloaded it but I haven't installed it yet. I ran an AVG scan of the folder that I downloaded the file to and it gave me the results that no viruses were found. I haven't installed the program yet. Do the AVG scan results mean that when I install the program, there still won't be a virus inside of it?

Hi, and thanks hopperdave. It looks like JetAudio Basic has the options that I was looking for. I also bookmarked C|Net for future use. :)

I just tried to use JetAudio Basic. It might have been a good program but the Basic version is a trial version and would only convert the first few minutes of the file. The page was misleading in that it said that it was freeware. I'll try one of the other programs and see if I have better luck.

    Hi,

Since JetAudio Basic didn't work out, I read about and decided that Super Fever would probably meet my needs for file conversion. I downloaded it but when I tried to install it, I received a message that gave me the requirements of the program and my computer's specs in several areas. The one area that my computer didn't meet the program's requirement was in Display Settings. My computer's display settings were 800 x 600 x 32 but the program requires 1024 x 768 x 15. Since I have a new LCD monitor, I decided to check the settings in Control Panel > Display > Settings Tab > Screen Resolution. It was set at 800 x 600 x 32. I moved the pointer to the right so that my screen's resolution would be 1024 x 768 x 15. It made quite a change in the appearance of objects. Some plusses were that items that used to need a right and left/up and down scroll bar no longer needed them and the pictures on my desktop (Webshots) showed much more on all 4 areas of the screen.

Unfortunately, everything else, such as my icons and fonts became so small that they were about the size of an O. I fooled around with the settings in Control Panel > Display > Appearance > Advanced, and I was able to get the icons, font size, scroll bar size, etc, to a size that was acceptable. However, I couldn't figure out how to increase the size of my system tray (from the start button to the clock) in height and the icons in it . . . they remain very small and I can't find the settings that will increase their sizes.

Can someone tell me where these settings are located?

Ok, this can't just be my computer/monitor. I thought that changing the resolution was going to improve my screen images, but it's caused a problem that I didn't have before. I resolved the size of the icons in my system tray but other things are out of proportion at websites.

I'll start with how my screen images changed before I changed the resolution. About a month ago, I "obtained" side and bottom scroll bars were there were none before. They're very annoying because if a page is long, I have to go to the bottom to see the left of my screen and then back up and scroll down to see the right side of my screen. This happened without me making any changes to my settings. Here at MajorGeeks, I never used to have a side and bottom scroll bar, but starting about a month ago, I've had one.

Now that I changed the resolution, the scroll bars are still there but I can't see the entire right side of information in windows that open, such as instructions, error messages, etc. About 1/2" is cut off, border included.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd really like to hear them.

Also, at most sites that I've been going to for the past 8 to ten 10 years, logos and other graphics are out of proportion to the size they used to be. I clicked on Tools > Internet Options > Reset Web Settings but it didn't help.

The size of the font in View > Text Size is set to medium but the lettering looks large compared to everything else. I tried changing it from smallest to largest with no change in the size of lettering.

Several times I've received messages that say that I don't have a connection to the internet and it asks me if I want to work off-line. When I click on my internet connection, it says that I'm connected. It just happened as I was writing this post, yet I'm still able to post it.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be very happy to hear them.

P.S. One last thing. I went to RealPlayer.com to download the newest version. There are 2 buttons to click. If the first doesn't work, the second one should. Each time I clicked a button, I received a message that my security settings will not allow the download of that type of file. I've downloaded it and received and installed updates for it for a few years, and I don't know why I can no longer download new updates.
