On my Windows 7 64 laptop my .doc files look like the image below. It shows the right icon but its small on a white background. I have office 2007 installed. Anyone know how to fix this?

    Hi

Try either of these routes first to see if they clear this up, simple quick off the top of my head things.

    1. Try re-associating the doc with Word again, right click the file and choose Open With, then Choose Default Program > tick the "always use selected program to open this kind of file" box and choose Word (even if you need to brose for it)

    2. Try a repair of Office, open Word and click the Orb > Word Options > Resources and click Diagnose next to run Microsoft Office Diagnostics.

I take it no other icons are like this, with while background, even from other Office apps, like Excel, Powerpoint etc?

Have you also got Open Office installed?

At this location in Control Panel > Programs >Default Programs > Set Associations are the other Word doc formats all displaying the same icon (eg. .doc, .docx, .dochtml etc)?

Tried the above steps and it didn't change. In the associations menu the icon isn't what its supposed to be. Here's a screen shot. I also do not have open office installed.

Thanks Halo, how have you been?

    Hi OC

Me good but very busy of late in RL work, hope you good?

Hey try this works in Win7 x64 as just tested it again to make sure (last time I used it, was to blog about it using Win Vista), used to be much easier to do this on XP that Vista or Win7, so this apps a nice freebie.

Grab Types HERE and unzip, its a standalone app so no installing, once open search for the errant doc file and right click it and choose Properties > Icon tab and you should see a listing of icons for Word like below, just choose the correct one.

if they dont list like above in the then past this line C:\Windows\Installer\{91120000-0030-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}\wordicon.exe into the box at the bottom where in my screenshot you can see the text C:\Windows\Installer\{91120000 and the Word icon list should show, if not click the yellow folder and browse to that location above.
