MS Outlook 2007 contacts problem

I'm running MS Outlook 2007 on MS Exchange server with Windows XP Pro. I get an email from someone, in this case someone I never received mail from before. I click forward and want to enter the address of someone I send mail to all the time. I start typing in the TO: field and Outlook just lets me type away, not completing the email address. I click on the TO: box and search for the address I'm sending to. Outlook does not find it. I end up going to the GLOBAL address list and finding the email address.

Why doesn't Outlook populate the email address field of someone I send email to all the time? All I get from our support desk is 'that's just the way it is'.confused Why would Microsoft make you type in the entire email address of someone you send email to all the time or make you look in a gloal address list instead of finding it in your contacts?

 

Outlook remembers commonly used address in the Auto complete file which has a file extension of *.NK2 and is located here - C:\Documents and Settings\[User Profile]\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Not sure if this is your problem but it could be that something has gone wrong with this file. If you copy it to another location and let outlook recreate a default file does it remember new addresses again?

 

It sounds like Auto Complete may be turned off (usually on by default). Check the following setting

1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
2. On the Preferences tab, click E-mail Options, and then click Advanced E-mail Options.
3. If the Suggest names while completing To, Cc, and Bcc fields is disabled, check the box to enable it.

You may also want to check if the "Automatic Name checking" is enabled in the same dialog box..
