    Hi, A friend told me about this site. I hope you can help. I recently downloaded AVG PC-TuneUp and cleaned up a whole lot of errors on my PC. But some new problems have emerged since. When I double click on my internet server connection I get a window pop-up saying...

    Microsoft Office Outlook
    Either there is no default client or the current mail client cannot fill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Office Outlook and set it as the default mail client.

    I am pretty sure I have set Gmail as my default client, and have no desire to use MO Outlook. How can I stop this message from appearing?

    Thanks.

    Since you did not mention what version of Windows you are running, I'll give directions for XP.
    When you click the start menu, in the right column do you see Set Program Access and Defaults? That what you want to fix.
    If you don't see it, open Control Panel and select Add/Remove Programs. In the left pane, the last item is Set Program Access and Defaults.

    Hi, thanks for your time. I did need to give more information. I have Windows Vista. I am having lots of issues and am just about to purchase microsoft software 2010 as I think it's all a mess. Does it effect existing word documents?

    What version of Microsoft Office do you currently have? Office 2007 and Office 2010 use .docx format for Word files; prior versions of Word used .doc. Office 2007 and Office 2010 will recognize the older .doc files.

    So, you think installing "microsoft software 2010" (I presume that means Microsoft Office 2010) will fix the mess? I think you should focus fixing the "mess", or figuring what's causing problems, before going out and buying new software.

    If you can post some details about the "mess", perhaps we can help fix it.

    Hi and thanks again. I have Office 2007.

    When I open the program with or without an existing document, I get a pop up window with a header saying: The function you are attempting to run requires macros or content that requires macro language support. When this software was installed, you (or your administrator) chose not to install support for macros or controls.

    Inside that is a much longer message... I've pasted the message and attached it as a word document. I try to close the window, sometimes 7 0r 8 times before I get a blank document.

    Then I get another message. "The document contains macros. Macro language support for this application is disabled. Features requiring VBA are not available. Would you like to open this document read only?" The same message as in the previous notification(the attachment) shows up underneath. I close that window and another small window opens with a header for EndnoteX4. "Word cannot write to file." I click OK. And I can start using the document.

    When I save the document to close it a Microsoft Office Word notification opens saying "Do you want to save changes to Endnote Cwyw?" Click on "yes" and it tries to save the document as a word macro enabled template but can't. Click on "no" once or twice before it closes.

    Someone who works with computers had a look and stopped the messages from appearing but it wiped out the Endnote tab which I would like to use as I will be writing many assignments requiring citations. Endnote was allowed again but they couldn't find how to remove the messages a second time around.

    I have only recently installed Endnotex4 but the messages were appearing before then anyway. And only more recently. I use AVG security and more recently installed AVG PC Tune-up. I am not sure about the timing but the problems may have started after a big cleanup with PC Tune-up. Couldn't say for sure.

    Long description, hey.

    Hi

    sadly this is an all too common issue when running cleanup utilities, they just do not know what your defaults are and in this case it seems to have reset your email default, although Gmail is not normally a default as its not an email application, so do you use Gmail online or via an email client and if a client what one?

    As Office seems to be corrupt in some of its messages to you I would uninstall and then reinstall Office again and see if that fixes the issue.

    Hi DavidGP, I use GMail online. Just one question about uninstalling Microsoft Office 2007 and replacing it with Office 2010. Is there any risk of losing access to existing word documents I have saved in document folders or on my desktop? Thanks. (-;

    I'll post answer since DavidGP is probably sound asleep in the UK at this hour. :-D Uninstalling Microsoft Office 2007 will not remove the Word documents you have saved on your hard drive. Uninstalling Microsoft Office 2007 will only remove the program, not the files you've created with it.

    However, as general precaution, it's always a good practice to back up important files on an external medium and do so on recurring basis.

    Hi usafveteran, Thanks. I'll back up some of my docs. I'm downloading the software now. See how it all goes. :)

    Thanks all for your help. Uninstalled the old, and installed the new MS Office suite. All problems solved and it's working very nicely. Very happy camper. (-;
