MS Vscredist_x86,exe

I am trying to run a programme which needs the installation of a Microsoft patch “ Vcredist_x86.exe VisualC++ 2008 Redistributable set up.”
Each time I have run this patch on my newest PC (Athlon 2x processor and XP SP2), I get an error message with the following
“An error has occurred and generated useful information” the details are as follows:=

EventType : visualstudio8setup P1 : 11867 P2 : [version]_[lab]_[pflavor]
P3 : msi P4 : inst P5 : f P6 : installvalidate P7 : -
P8 : 1618 P9 : -

Strangely, on my older backup PC with Pentium 3 and XP (No SP), accepts the patch without a problem . Do you have any suggestions hor I can overcome this problem please.

Couple of quick thoughts: maybe the patch download is corrupt - try downloading the patch again, see if your symptoms change.

Also, there may be issues going on with Windows Installer: try installing the newest version, see if that helps with the Vcredist package.
