MS Word locking up

Hello!

I am having a problem with MS Word locking up when I tell it to open a document. It will also lock when I tell it to save a document. Other functions are ok. And this only happens with two of the four user accounts on the system (running Windows XP Home). I have cleared all temp files and deleted all working files (~$xxx...). I have searched the internet and have not found anything describing this problem. Anyone heard of this? And a better question, what to do about it?

Do you have a HP scanner, HP photosmart software, HP Deskjet printer w/ card reader, HP camera, HP CD-RW and HP DVD-RWs? My Documents didn't work for me, either. Did you install security update 908531?

Find MS Support article 918165 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918165/en-us?FR=1&PA=1&SD=HSCH) and there is a registry fix for the problem.

Worked for a friend of mine, all XP applications stopped opening and saving. He had an HP printer installed. Followed the instructions for correcting the registry and now work fine.

Thanks. Mine worked fine for a day, then when trying to open a Word document:
MS Visual Basic: "The language DLL 'VBE6INTL.DLL' could not be found"
MS Word: "The Visual Basic environment could not be initialized"

I still am unable to open a Word document. Excel gives the same error messages, but let me into the file, at least. I've hunted all over MS support and haven't been able to find the answer.

Does anyone know of a safe program (free, if possible) that can correct DLL errors? There are so many, and I'm not sure whch are safe to use.
