    Hey,

I've tried following instructions other people received, but it obviously hasn't helped.

msanton.exe no longer shows up in task mananger
I still get the pop-up with spelling errors included
Control panel has disappeared and it seems my admin rights are gone?
Google keeps being set as my home page on restarts

    Thanks

    Okay,

I ran the AVG scan and it picked up a few tracking cookies and adware, but reports were unavailable?

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [version] C:\WINDOWS\system32\timoty.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [NvUpdater] nwiz32.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [NvUpdater] nwiz32.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [CTUpdate] ctupdclt.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [froody] C:\WINDOWS\system32\timoty.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\RunServices: [NvUpdater] nwiz32.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\RunServices: [CTUpdate] ctupdclt.exe
    O4 - Startup: csrss.lnk = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\EDPphQFDB\csrss.exe
    O4 - Startup: setings.exe
    O4 - Global Startup: startup.exe

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    • Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:
    • Now click the 'Done' button.
    • Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    • You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt
After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Okay, So everything was going well. I received this error from avenger. Saw an error msg about not being able to delete Froody or something. I haven't restarted as I didn't get the prompt - and I haven't continued with steps after avenger.

    Thanks.

On re-reading the bit about re-booting myself I continued on.

Avenger did not run properly. Try again, but this time shutdown your antivirus, antispyware and anything else you have running before using the Avenger procedure. Make sure you copy the WHOLE quote box. That means you must copy the Files to delete:

I shut down avg anti spyware which is the only anti-prog which appears to be running.

I ran avenger again and got an error saying something along the lines of syntax error. Couldn't find path to registry.

I have an unfamiliar program running called guard.exe which shows up as being run by the system in task manager. I cannot shut it down.

Sorry about that. There are some items I needed to remove from the fix. Run the remaining steps below.

    It is from AVG Antispyware!

First make sure that the fixME.reg patch from the previous message was successfully added to the registry. Run it again and tell me if you get a success message. This is important.

Now run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.

The registry updated successfully. Avenger restarted properly this time. Still don't know how to remove guard.exe.

I told you in my last message that it is for AVG AntiSpyware. See the below line in your HJT log:

    O23 - Service: AVG Anti-Spyware Guard - GRISOFT s.r.o. - C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5\guard.exe

Did you forget to have HijackThis fix the below line? Try again and then attach another new log from running GetLogs.bat.
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [CTUpdate] ctupdclt.exe

Other than the above, your logs are clean.
