pretty cool web site you all got here!

    im reading your stickys in
READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

i got to a part here where it refers to and says..
How to deal with startup processes - do not use MSconfig
    heres the page
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=149804

does this apply to windows 98?..or just operating systems ME and after
because the article refers to things like..

It is safer to control services by using Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services (this runs services.msc).
    and
The System Configuration utility helps you find problems with your Windows XP configuration. It does not manage the programs that run when Windows starts.

i've always used MSCFG in win98..to speed it up..
    and only had...SYSTRAY..my ANTIVIRUS..and FIREWALL..
running..only those 3 things starting up
i've had it like that for 10 years or so..
when i read your article and i was like what!!!rolleyes..
and i thought does that go for win98 also..
    well does it?

how do i make Quotes in a new post?
i searched for the word QUOTE
when i was reading this fourm
    Using MajorGeeks and the forums
and all i got from my search was this page here..
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=86880&highlight=quote
it dosen't really say how to it just refers to the quote button
    after clicking the advanced thing..

    Welcome to Major Geeks

Yes it applies to using MSconfig no matter what operating system. MSconfig was designed for temporary debugging even though many people are using it like you are.

Yes there are obviously additional features in the newer NT based Windows Operating Systems that do appear on Windows 98 and ME.

The same rules apply as on the other OS's.

You can use the Quote button that appears at the top of the message editor or you can type in the vBcode for the quotes yourself.

    Hey chaslang

    thanks for the reply !!!..

yeah i never knew that about MSCGF..
i know lots of people that use it that way..
i wonder how many people actually use it that way..

    i got a question..
like say...the things that are in the start up..
    that i dont want starting..
that dont have a option to dissable them starting up...
    like say...Scanregistry..
    taskmonitor...
    LoadPowerProfile
    SchedulingAgent
    and a few other things..
    like ATI video EXE's..
    and Sound blaster EXE's..

would i just do something like..
like make a short-cut for them...
then put the short-cut in the
    Disabled Startup Items folder

    C:\WINDOWS\Start Menu\Programs\Disabled Startup Items..
is that the way i would do that?
would that be the right way to have them not start up??

plus whats the VB code for a quote box?

You really need discuss this further in the Software Forum if you want to better understand this. These are not malware problems and disabling some of those startups takes away various Windows features that you should not be removing (like power profiles and the task scheduler).

You can use programs like Autoruns and Startup CPL to manage startups. Although I have not recently checked to see if Autoruns still supports the obsolete Win 9x platforms.

Here is a link with a quick overview for some vbcode items.
