    Little history.....before finding this forum.

Had the nasty popups caused by antispyware 2009 occure last night on the kids computer.

Mcafee identified and cleaned a few items but there were still issues.

Rebooted into safe mode with network, downloaded and installed malwarebytes. Itidentified a bunch of stuff which I had it remove.

It told me to reboot to complete repair so I did.

I let windows come up normally, windows loaded fine and so did my dektop.

The msconfig utility was displayed with a notice which I didnt get to finish writing down when the system rebooted (hard reset).

It came back up and repeated to load fine, display msconfig and reboot.

So on its way up again I stopped it in safe mode with network and things seemed to be stable there then I had to leave for work.

Doing some more research am I correct in asuming this may be caused by malway using msconfig to load itself and that malwarebytes removed these items BUT they are still in the msconfig, which of course cant load them and this is the cause of my reboot issues?

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

The message you are referring to normally occurs when you do not have your PC in Normal Startup mode. Run MSconfig and select Normal Startup mode. Then reboot and the popup should be gone. MSconfig should not be used as a long term solution for controlling startups. It is only meant for debugging problems.

Thanks for the response. Thats exactly what it was but even after I changed the mode (which gave m a permissions error) the system simply kept rebooting. I got tired of chasing ghosts so repartition/formatted and reinstalled windows.

Then you may have still had malware issues and should have run our full cleaning procedure and then attached your logs for review.

But since you have reinstalled, doing the above is no longer necessary. However you should do the below.
