Below is a couple screenshots I took of my msconfig window. What can I disable?

    Sorry.

I just noticed you were in the Startup Tab.

Some people say all you really need to run at start up is Anti-Virus, Firewall, and whatever other protection you may feel you need.

    Hope this helps.

Just remember, that msconfig is typically only used for troubleshooting. But, on a side note, if you want more info on what each of those items are, you can download Startup Inspector:

Though, even this program is not perfect.

imo, the best. What to disable varies from pc to pc. Gen-speak, leave security apps alone. Apps like cd/dvd/movie/media loader aren't necessary.

For example, the 1st item jusched for Java update is not needed if you check Java updates by yourself. I do. You can disable it. control panel > java > update tab > uncheck the box, ok.

The last item APC UPS is not needed as well. 2000/xp has the same thing. When battery drops below a %, a pop-up will alert you. You can set this up. right-click empty desktop > properties > screen... > power > alerts > alarm action. I set up mine to warn me for low & force-shut down for critical.
