My system is Intel QuadCore Q6600
    EVGA 681i SLI Ready Motherboard
    4GB Ram
    XFX Nvidia 8600GTS video card
Windows XP SP2 with all updates installed

I installed ComodoBOclean and started getting a message about a Trojan in explorer.exe and it asked me if I wanted to delete the file explorer.exe. Of course I didn't delete my explorer.exe file since it would basically render my system unusable. I clicked on NO which then caused my desktop to dissappear. Start menu, Taskbar, Icons, etc. ....all gone.

I then hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete went to Processes, clicked on file, New Task (run) and typed in explorer.exe. This brought my desktop back but after a little while I got the Application Error again about deleting the explorer.exe file.

I then started getting an Application Error warning about msdll.exe and it asked also if I wanted to delete the file. I didn't know what to do so I just cancelled it out and then went to the Comodo website and made a post of my problems in their support forum. I got a response informing me that if the msdll.exe file was in the \system32\ folder on my computer it was malware. I checked and that is the location of the file. They instructed me to upload the file to a virus scan site which I did. It came back that it was infected with a Trojan Backdor. They instructed me to remove the file using Autorun from the Microsoft website which I did. It returned within 10 seconds. I went into my Windows\system32 folder on my C drive and removed it. It returned within 10 seconds. No matter where I go or what I do...the file always comes back.

I ran all of the scans on the Read Me First page and I am attaching the logs below. Counter Spy did not give me the opportunity to save a log file. It did say it found the following:

    BANDOOK BACKDOOR 2 Objects
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\ACTIVE SETUP\INSTALLED COMPONENTS\{B6A807 (it did not show the rest of the string of numbers)

I appreciate any help in resolving this problem.

    Thanks,
    CTDR11233

    We need your logs from:
    ShowNew and GetRUnKeys.

    In the meantime:
Run HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    After clicking fix, exit HJT.

Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    * Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    * Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:

    * Now click the 'Done' button.
    * Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    * You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt

    Please attach the logs from:
    ShowNew
    GetRunKeys
    Avenger

Sorry. I forgot the logs from GetRunKeys and Show. They are now attached along with the Avenger log file.

    Thanks for your help.

What is this: C:\xxx.html ? If you don't know, delete it.
If you have done my previous fix ...continue with this:

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.

    ShowNew
    GetRunKeys
    Avenger

I ran everything as you stated. Here are the log files. The GetRunKeys and ShowNew logs are the ones I created before I started this post. Do I need to run these programs again and submit logs that are up to date?

When I tried to attach the GetRunKeys and ShowNew logs it said I had already uploaded them in this thread. How can I upload them again?

Yes you need to run them again, now that you have done the fix ...they will be different and uploadable(attachable).

Here are the updated logs. Of course the new Avenger log is in my last post.

Also, you stated above in your post:

"What is this: C:\xxx.html If you don't know delete it."

I don't know what it is but how do I delete it?

Not to worry ...the file is gone.

Disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while you do this:
Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
    Re-enable your protection.
    Attach a new GetRunKeys log.

    That got it.
Your logs look clean. You may uninstall any programs we had you download (including CounterSpy, etc).

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
    * Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix you can delete the ComboFix.exe file and associated C:\combofix.txt log that was created.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    5. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    6. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    7. You can delete the ShowNew.Zip and GetRunkey.Zip files and the files that you extracted from the ZIP files. You can also delete the C:\newfiles.txt and C:\runkeys.txt logs that were created
    8. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
    * go back to step 8 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
    * Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
