    I am making a new thread after having gone to the internet haystack on this and looking for needles.

    System under discussion

    AMD Athlon II x3 450 Regor 3.2 Ghz
    MSI 880GM-E41 mainboard
    Kingston DDR3 Hyperx/fb 2x2Gb
    Maxtor 100G HD
    Logisys 480w Power supply
    corded mouse
    corded keyboard
    using onboard video by ATI
    using onboard audio (works.)

    The board works, the audio plays but the hardware Wizard insists that Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio is not installed. I have tried several things and since the board is new ( but discontinued) I find I'm reading what sounds like the same thing over and over with different driver exe.s given.

    I have seen the thread from Major Geeks in 2007 and much of that is dead so please don't link to it.

    What I'd prefer is a step by step diagnostic. The board is new but XP SP3 is the installed operating system.

    The talk about going back to SP2 I don't understand to begin with but that was part of one of the fixes.

    I don't need HD audio at all-- it's just with the board. But I do want good sound. So if I could delete around all this high def rubbish, I'd do it.

    Please do not use shorthand in any explanations.

    I will ask one related thing to start: Microsoft shows something about a Hot Fix on their service page for this problem. Is that something to consider?

    Hi

    Just as a starting point so I and others can get a feel for how your system looks, could you tell us in Device Manager what devices if any have a red X or yellow ! mark by them?

    Device manager can be opened easily by clicking Start > Run and typing or copy and pasting this line devmgmt.msc and hitting enter.

    What this advice tries to achieve is to fool Windows XP SP3 into thinking its SP2, thus allowing the UAA HD Audio driver to be re-installed again, it works in many cases.

    But why I'm asking the earlier question on Device Manager is that your Chipset Driver which is crucial for other drivers to work properly maybe missing and needs installing.

    As for the Microsoft Hotfix, do you have a link to it?

    *my note and reference point when needed is the drivers for your system are HERE
