msn messenger 6

i'm using win xp home and i use msn as my home page with msn messenger 6and for some reason it likes to sign me out or not let me sign in sometimes and also signs me out when i am in the middle of talking to someone, why does it keep doing this?crappy product?

 

I had this prob w/WinMessenger and finally ended up by getting Trillian. It didn't solve the prob's but it helped me to reconnect. It seems to be fluctuations in the MSN service (that, BTW, aren't reported on the MSN status page). Basically....you'll just have to learn to live with it

 

Never had it with gaim (gaim.sf.net)...

 

MSN is blocking GAIM

And it isn't clear exactly to what level. It depends on liscencing issues, primarily, but I'm betting AIM/ICQ will get real popular come November.

As said above, its a quirk in the Messenger service servers, but with so many clients you can't complain.

In reference to the blocking above, that is incorrect. The service will be blocking ALL clients trying to utilize insecure messenging protocols (MSNP) implemented in clients such as 2,3,and 4.0. Users wanting to use third party clients will have use MSNP9 and up which mainly feature custom emoticon support and display portraits. Third party speculations and explainations of doing so in future clients are popping up throughout the web so you can be sure this won't be a problem for Trillian, Gaim, etc.
